Memorial Day weekend was so fun, I got to go to the beach, died laughing at karaoke, and had a fabulous time at a BBQ! I think that means summer is finally here, which is the start of patios, beer gardens, and rooftops, this type of outfit is perfect for any of these summer activities! The jean shorts and sheer blouse give it a laid back vibe but the blazer and the shoes keep it smart. I always love mixing casual pieces with a more dressed up piece, it keeps things interesting, and that is what I think defines my personal style. Every person I meet says there is nothing better than summer in Chicago, so I am very much looking forward to this! I cannot wait to share with you what is going on and obviously what I will be wearing!

I have successfully survived my first week in Chicago without dying or having some sort of breakdown, so thats good! After a weekend that included a fabulous rooftop bar, a first date, and being a dancing queen at a club, this outfit is perfect for a low key day in the city. Flats for walking, a jacket incase it gets cold, along with a button down which always looks sophisticated and is a very easy piece to wear. A varsity jacket is definitely something to have in your closet for spring. The great thing about them is they are so versatile, you can tone down a really fancy dress by throwing one on or add it to your button down for a sporty feel. I found this one downtown in NYC at one of those like kind of trashy stores… ha, but I had to get it, it was like only twenty dollars! The things you can find if you stumble into the unknown. So this summer when you are traveling, plan your outfits accordingly. It is so easy to be comfortable and fashionable when walking around a city beyond yoga pants, you can do it, I promise.

Fringe & Louboutins

This outfit with the background reminds me of something Carrie would wear in the Sex and the City episode when she goes to Aiden’s country house and she is in heels the entire time baking pies and breaking up fights between him and Mr. Big! I love the top and I am even in love with the similar one that I posted in the outfit details. It is perfect to go with the crop top trend but to not be horribly exposed, it is also an easy top to wear from day to night. I really like the idea of something so “free” like fringe paired with a blazer for structure. The pop of pink in the shoes adds a bit of femininity to the outfit, the crystalized python and six inch heels do not hurt either! Lastly, the necklace from Lionette is a must have in my opinion. It can totally transform an outfit, anything from jeans and a white t-shirt to a ball gown! So moral of this, do not be afraid to take a more “corporate” piece and pair it with something unexpected like fringe or a crop top. Just like in life, the free spirit compliments the person in a suit on the reg, and vice versa!

P.S. I am all moved into my apartment in Chicago for my new job! I am so excited, but now I need to find a photographer in the area. If you live around Chicago and are interested, please message me using the contact form! Thank you. xx

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Since last weekend was my last weekend in Toledo, my dad got us tickets for his company’s suite for the local baseball team, The Mud Hens. He knows it is one of my favorite things to do! I really like sports, especially live, I might not always know exactly what is going on but I am good at drinking beer, eating, cheering, and anything else one does at a sporting event. Now there is no excuse why one cannot be cute and comfortable at a sporting event, especially baseball! It is cold weather at the moment, so I am wearing my favorite t-shirt ever, I got it from the mens sections, women’s sports gear is seriously so horrible, I tied it up and layered it over a button down just so I had something exciting. I then added a jacket because it was cold and an amazing necklace from Vanessa Mooney, I love her stuff. Once it gets warmer I will definitely throw on a baseball hat, shorts, and little Nikes or skaters to be comfortable since it is usually sweltering heat if the game is during the day! A red lip will make anything glamorous, so why not wear one to a baseball game?! I will miss The Mud Hens, but now I guess I have to choose between The Cubs and The White Sox!

Three Shades of Grey

This outfit does not come with its very own Christian Grey, even though I really wish it did. I will find you one day sir. So, I am in Chicago working at their market week and I am having so much fun, learning so much, and am exhausted, so this will be short. This outfit was inspired by Kim Kardashian. In my opinion her style has been outstanding lately, you must admit Kanye is an awesome stylist. Well, she has worn head to toe grey a couple times over the past few months and a lot of high-waisted things with cropped tees. I love one color head to toe, and grey is a fun neutral that will flatter anyone but is more interesting than black. Give it a try with any color, keep it casual, and I am sure it will look wonderful!

Layer Up

If you are anywhere in the Midwest you are probably defrosting from this absolutely insane weather. When my sister sends me a picture of her on the beach it really makes me question why I ever left LA! Anyway, to brave the snow I definitely suggest layers, boots and beanies. Layering has always been a challenge for me, but I think I might have figured it out, for this post at least. I love denim on denim, Canadian tuxedo baby, but after a couple years of it being a trend I wanted to do it a bit differently. I layered my favorite flannel under my denim shirt and cuffed the sleeves up once to let the flannel hang out a bit. I then added my army jacket, which I got on sale this summer for 16 euros in Spain when I saw it in Paris for 70 euros, my new goal in life is to go to Spain every summer for the sales, such a sucker for a deal! I cuffed my jacket a few times then just pulled it up to show off my other layers. I worked really hard to get them right why would I cover them up?! Now to the boots, how I love these. You can pair them with about anything and brave any element while looking cool, how wonderful is that? I then threw on a beanie and called it an outfit. Layer up people of the Midwest and stay warm, literally the rest of the world I am jealous of you.

How amazing is this traditional smoking jacket? My Grandpa got it while he was in Hokkaido, Japan during World War II. When he gave it to my mom I fell in love with it instantly and knew I would be borrowing it. With the oversized coat trend in full force, I decided now was the time to wear it. The colors and the details are beyond, you just don’t find quality like this anymore so I am very lucky he passed it down. Since it was my Grandpa’s it was extra oversized so I had to roll up the sleeves. A traditional smoking jacket is worn with the belt tied around your waist, but I didn’t like that so I tied it in my best possible bow in the back. You can do that with any coat or jacket with a belt, it will help define your waist and it is super cute! I obviously wanted the jacket to shine so I wore my favorite basics, my Zara tank top and Seven jeans. Like I said in this blog post, I am totally into just rolling my jeans up once. It is undone but done in a cool “I don’t care” kind of way. This season some of your favorite pieces may be in a relatives attic! Go hunting for them, and wear them because they will always be a special, one of a kind piece with a great history.

Santa Monica Sunset

For a day of shopping around freezing Santa Monica I went super comfy and casual. I’ve said before how much I love my boyfriend jeans, I can’t live without them, but I was trying to figure out a fresher way to wear them than the usual two roll cuff. Since it was a little chilly by the beach and I wanted my ankles covered I only cuffed my jeans once, very sloppily I must say, but I absolutely die for it! I think the look is super sexy in the “I just rolled out of bed and my pants happen to be cuffed like this” sort of way. To keep that vibe going I tied up a t-shirt, put on my go to leather jacket and then the most amazing hat to cover my real just rolled out of bed hair. I love the tartan detail weaved throughout the silver chain of the hat, its a very simple way to bring the tartan trend into your wardrobe, and can be found here. I’m enjoying my last sun filled day in LA today, but I have many more LA outfits to come!
