Ice Cream, Chic, & Cheap

I am obsessed with this outfit because minus the jewelry and shoes it only costs thirty-five dollars! Everyone has some pair of tennis shoes and some jewelry, so throw it on and call it a day. Target really does have some awesome finds, like this cobalt blue skirt that I bought for fifteen dollars when I first moved to LA and was broke as a joke, and I still do not underestimate Target. It is kind of amazing! Then the tank from Zara I got on sale in Paris, I actually bought two in separate colors because I love it so much. Then this jacket, I cannot even explain to you what an amazing find this is! A vintage stand at the Hollywood farmer market ages ago, and it was TEN DOLLARS! There is no brand, no anything in the tag, but it is absolutely beautiful and I am so happy I snagged it. I stumbled into a resale shop yesterday in Chicago and found some amazing things and it just goes to show sometimes it is more fun to take the time to search through racks of vintage to find the one special piece that no one has than it is to search through every rack at Forever 21 to find the thing that everyone in the world can get! Simply saying, do not underestimate the value of a good resale shop.

Mack’s Musts for Spring

bm spring
Dress: Zara||Striped Top: H&M||Jeans: J Crew||Denim Jacket: H&M||Necklace: Topshop||Hat: J Crew||Lipstick: Proenza Schouler for Mac||Bag: Topshop||Hair cream: Morroccan Oil

These are some things that I personally own or have tried on and plan to buy and/or have put in my shopping cart to buy! I have been living in my Birkenstocks for spring, along with these jeans from J Crew. I swear to you neither items have left my body except for to sleep. They are the best combination EVER! And just so you know, Chanel had their resort show in Dubai this week and Karl sent socks and sandals down the runway. Do not fight it, embrace it. The Proenza Schouler for Mac in Mangrove is truly the most beautiful color ever made and you need to own it before they stop selling it or it gets sold out. The striped shirt and jean jacket from H&M are awesome staples to have in your closet that so far seem to be great quality for the price! Zara’s layered dress is seriously so beautiful, I tried it on in black because they did not have the white in store and it really is a great piece for spring. It is really tight underneath but then there are slits that go up the side for a looser look, but you can get glimpses of the tight part when you move, really sexy and really easy for anything and everything all spring and summer! The chocker from Topshop is only $28 but looks like its $2800… enough said there. J Crew, is seriously my new obsession, Jenna Lyon (J Crew’s creative director) is my idol, and did you hear they are making a lower priced line?! Anyway, the hat is so cute for a day at the beach or running around the city doing anything! The light pink purse from Topshop is so cute and fun to lighten up any outfit for spring and lastly the Morroccan oil hydrating cream is perfect to keep your hair hydrated in summer! I hope you enjoy these things as much as I do.. I promise you will not regret any of them!

B is for Boxcar

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageBlouse: Forever 21 similar here||Pants: Express||Shoes: Miu Miu||Jacket: unknown similar here||Necklace: Forever 21 {Shot by: Kaitlyn Elliott}

I have successfully survived my first week in Chicago without dying or having some sort of breakdown, so thats good! After a weekend that included a fabulous rooftop bar, a first date, and being a dancing queen at a club, this outfit is perfect for a low key day in the city. Flats for walking, a jacket incase it gets cold, along with a button down which always looks sophisticated and is a very easy piece to wear. A varsity jacket is definitely something to have in your closet for spring. The great thing about them is they are so versatile, you can tone down a really fancy dress by throwing one on or add it to your button down for a sporty feel. I found this one downtown in NYC at one of those like kind of trashy stores… ha, but I had to get it, it was like only twenty dollars! The things you can find if you stumble into the unknown. So this summer when you are traveling, plan your outfits accordingly. It is so easy to be comfortable and fashionable when walking around a city beyond yoga pants, you can do it, I promise.

How To: Conquer the Walk of Shame

ImageImageImageImageImageSlip: Victoria’s Secret similar here||Sweater: H&M||Bra: Hanky Panky similar here||Shoes: Birkenstocks||Sunglasses: Forever 21 similar here {Shot by: Kaitlyn Elliott}

As I sit here typing this, I must give you a full disclaimer, I’ve never had a walk of shame, but I have thought about it.. just incase. So, this is what I came up with. I know one doesn’t necessarily carry a nightie around with them, but this is for the ladies who like to sleep at their boyfriends, sex friend, or whatever’s, house unexpectedly, but have a coffee date with the girls the next morning with no clothes to wear. Voila! Take your nightie, steal your boyfriend sweater and personally I say go for the Birkenstocks, preferably yours, or any other shoe that will tone down a nightie. If none of this is around option two is very Carrie Bradshaw, steal his work shirt, turn it into a dress, and tie his belt around your waist. I was at a store in Paris and the lady tied a belt around my waist and it changed my life. If anything, leave your own house wearing this morning after chic outfit and let everyone wonder how and why you look so fabulous! They’ll envy it. Promise!

Fringe & Louboutins

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageTop: from a random store in Laguna Beach similar here||Jeans: Zara similar here||Blazer: H&M similar here||Belt: H&M||Necklace: Lionette||Rings: The Glitter Vault||Bracelets: Vintage||Shoes: Christian Louboutin similar less expensive here {Shot by: Kaitlyn Elliott}

This outfit with the background reminds me of something Carrie would wear in the Sex and the City episode when she goes to Aiden’s country house and she is in heels the entire time baking pies and breaking up fights between him and Mr. Big! I love the top and I am even in love with the similar one that I posted in the outfit details. It is perfect to go with the crop top trend but to not be horribly exposed, it is also an easy top to wear from day to night. I really like the idea of something so “free” like fringe paired with a blazer for structure. The pop of pink in the shoes adds a bit of femininity to the outfit, the crystalized python and six inch heels do not hurt either! Lastly, the necklace from Lionette is a must have in my opinion. It can totally transform an outfit, anything from jeans and a white t-shirt to a ball gown! So moral of this, do not be afraid to take a more “corporate” piece and pair it with something unexpected like fringe or a crop top. Just like in life, the free spirit compliments the person in a suit on the reg, and vice versa!

P.S. I am all moved into my apartment in Chicago for my new job! I am so excited, but now I need to find a photographer in the area. If you live around Chicago and are interested, please message me using the contact form! Thank you. xx

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageJeans: Seven For All Mankind||T-shirt: from The Swamp Shop||Buttondown: Forever 21||Jacket: Zara||Shoes: Lauren Conrad||Necklace: Vanessa Mooney||Ring: Forever 21||Sunglasses: Chanel||Lipstick: NARS {Shot by: My father, Michael Periatt}

Since last weekend was my last weekend in Toledo, my dad got us tickets for his company’s suite for the local baseball team, The Mud Hens. He knows it is one of my favorite things to do! I really like sports, especially live, I might not always know exactly what is going on but I am good at drinking beer, eating, cheering, and anything else one does at a sporting event. Now there is no excuse why one cannot be cute and comfortable at a sporting event, especially baseball! It is cold weather at the moment, so I am wearing my favorite t-shirt ever, I got it from the mens sections, women’s sports gear is seriously so horrible, I tied it up and layered it over a button down just so I had something exciting. I then added a jacket because it was cold and an amazing necklace from Vanessa Mooney, I love her stuff. Once it gets warmer I will definitely throw on a baseball hat, shorts, and little Nikes or skaters to be comfortable since it is usually sweltering heat if the game is during the day! A red lip will make anything glamorous, so why not wear one to a baseball game?! I will miss The Mud Hens, but now I guess I have to choose between The Cubs and The White Sox!

Peter Pilotto Picked A Peck Of Prints

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageTop: Peter Pilotto for Target on major clearance||Skirt: Peter Pilotto for Target on clearance too||Shoes: ASOS||Bracelet: Vintage {Shot by: Samira Anbar}

Finally, it is nice enough out to wear this skirt, it has been sitting in my closet for months! I usually stay away from prints and things that are too busy for fear of looking like a crazy person, but when I tried this on together in the dressing room I loved it! I think that is the glory of this particular collection for Target, everything mixed and matched well even though everything had a print of some kind on it. Mixing prints is definitely a tricky thing, but thats the fun of it! Here are some tips for mixing prints:

1. Stripes are now a neutral, they can go with florals, polka dots, or even other stripes!

2. Be sure the prints you are mixing have the same color shade in each piece, my repeating color is obviously black and white, however I would rarely suggest black and white being your main colors when mixing, because you could end up looking like a zebra. The colors in the top are actually what tied this particular look together!

3. The sizing of the mixed prints. Big repeated patterns should be paired with small repeating patterns. I love the big geometric pattern on the back of the skirt, with the smaller details on the wrap of it. When mixed with the top where the stripes are medium sized compared to the rest of the outfit, it just seems to work.

4. Do not be afraid to break all the rules, if you think it looks good then it probably does! Some fun combinations to try are stripes with florals, animal print with chevron, art deco with water color, the possibilities are endless.

Okay, since I am wearing a designer collaboration it is only appropriate to talk about the next major collab. This will be the best one yet in my opinion, Alexander Wang x H&M. Ohmigod, seriously start saving your pennies. They let the word out at the H&M party at Coachella last weekend, they also released a video on Instagram that has a scoreboard to announce the November 6th release date, so the collection will probably have a sporty feel. Which totally makes sense since he is the first American designer to collaborate with H&M. I am definitely looking forward to getting my hands on an awesome bag, you know he will not put his name on a t-shirt that is not impeccably designed with a magnificent fabric, and just some all around cool lifestyle pieces. So excited!

Kiss Me, I’m Irish

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageDress: Kohls||Blazer: H&M similar on major sale here||Belt: Nasty Gal similar here||Shoes: ASOS similar here||Ring: Vintage {Pics by: Samira Anbar}

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I really am a bit Irish. You better be wearing green today, this is like the only green thing I own, despite it being my second favorite color. I fell in love with the neon green against the navy blue, it is an unexpected and fresh twist. Then to mix it up even more I wore black heels, to tie in the black lace on the blazer, a cheetah belt, because cheetah is a neutral, and pink lips for fun! I love bright, bold colors, but as I get older it gets scary to wear them for fear of looking obnoxious, but whatever Anna Dello Russo does it so I can too! If you don’t know who she is google her, she is major. I think this color combination is pretty fab, what is the point of fashion if you aren’t having a bit of fun with it? Beyond the clothes, notice anything different? I cut my hair.. into a “lob,” formally called a long bob. I haven’t cut my hair into a “trendy” cut like ever, so I decided it was time for a change and went for it. I hope everyone had a great St. Patty’s weekend and drank too much green beer. I’m off to Chicago for the day.. maybe I’ll have my first green beer ever?!

Day ‘N’ Nite

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageShirt: Eleven Paris (Karl Lagerfeld was seasonal, but here is Lenny Kravitz)||Hoodie: American Apparel||Jacket: Forever 21||Skirt: H&M||Tennis Shoes: Nike||Heels: Topshop {Pics by: Samira Anbar}

So you know those days when you are so busy all day then you have a date (ha) or a dinner with friends right at 7 and you know you will be running late (hence the picture of me running) and you just will not have time to change?! If you ever find yourself in this situation, here is a perfect day to night look thats comfortable, a little sexy, and definitely cool. A pencil skirt is something so undeniably feminine that every woman should own at least one. To keep it young, I paired my classy little skirt with a fun graphic tee, then layered a basic hoodie with a bomber jacket and was ready to go for the entire day! If you are heading out with friends, tie the hoodie around your waist or leave it on and drape the bomber jacket over your shoulders. If it is a date you are rushing to, I say throw the hoodie in your bag. Besides the clothes, to go seamlessly from day to night, especially if you are city living, I suggest a super chic tote, you could pre-order this amazingly versatile and gorgeous one I am dreaming of from Helmut Lang, or this equally amazing and way more affordable one from ASOS, because you will have to put your sneakers, hoodie, extra toothbrush and lipstick somewhere.

Haute Sneakers

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageDress: H&M||Jacket: Vintage||Shoes: Nike||Belt: Forever 21||Rings: The Glitter Vault c/o||Beanie: Unknown {Pics by: Kaitlyn Elliott}

So.. something major happened last week during Spring Couture fashion week, specifically at Chanel. Every single look was sent down the runway in tennis shoes! From ball gowns to the classic Chanel suit, every outfit had matching sneakers. We also saw some sneakers down the runway at Dior… so it is safe to say this is a huge trend that we will see throughout the spring, so invest in some cute ones, preferably pastel, to wear outside the gym! After watching all the shows I was inspired to shift to a spring color palette so I mixed and matched the fall plaid with a spring colored dress. This blazer was from my Grammy’O, I stumbled upon it in storage! Seriously, you can find the best pieces in your parents and grandparents closets! Besides a belt to define my waist, I added some rings from The Glitter Vault. I am obsessed with this set! There are only four rings, but it looks like six. I love the ones with the double band because they add so much more drama and they’re adjustable so the styling possibilities are endless. Spring is right around the corner, I wouldn’t say put all your heels up on the shelf, but definitely plan on lots of sneakers and flats this season!

Cap It Off

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage                 Sweater: Forever 21||Plaid: The Kooples||Skirt: H&M||Booties: Steve Madden                 {Pics by Mirapics}

This post was supposed to be all about The Ohio State Buckeyes winning the Orange Bowl on Friday, hence the “yay we won” pose at the end, but now it will be focused strictly on fashion. As if I really knew what I was going to say if they did win! Anyway, for my outfits recently I can’t help but say they are inspired by Beyoncé. Cheesy I know, but if you listen to her album and watch the videos that accompany it you might understand. All of them are insanely sexy, cool and unapologetic of who she is. I tried to bring that casual, sexy and cool feeling to my outfit. The cropped trend is holding strong in 2014, so I paired my cropped sweater with a pencil skirt, which can be dressed up, but I wanted to keep it really casual. To maintain that chill vibe, I tied a plaid shirt around my waist, added a baseball cap and my favorite booties. The plaid shirt is from The Kooples, a French brand, it is on every corner in Paris, similar to our Starbucks, but for us here in the U.S it is worth checking out. This outfit is great for a cool Sunday brunch, to host a game night or to meet friends at a sports bar. When in doubt, just pretend you’re Beyoncé, life is more fun that way!
