Oh my gosh, I am so sorry it has been so long, but I’m back… and hopefully with more consistency. So this is my first post with pictures and outfits in Chicago! Frankie from Style Through My Eyes, whom I absolutely adore, shot them right down the street from my apartment. After we shot the pictures we hit the town and literally got home as the sun was rising, it was too fun! So, after being in Chicago a month and a half, I’ve noticed many Chicago women have their uniform, I have one too, no judgement, but the Chicago lady is often seen in some version of the shift dress and flats for daytime and skirts and blouses at night. It is nice, but I wanted to find a way to take that and spice it up a bit. I was very inspired by Alexander Wang, he sent a button down buttoned similar to mine down the runway for Spring. He paired it with shorts, I did as well after I realized this skirt was just a little too short, oops! Anyway, I decided to try it out, I liked it. I suggest you try it as an effort to spice up your button downs.

Fringe & Louboutins

This outfit with the background reminds me of something Carrie would wear in the Sex and the City episode when she goes to Aiden’s country house and she is in heels the entire time baking pies and breaking up fights between him and Mr. Big! I love the top and I am even in love with the similar one that I posted in the outfit details. It is perfect to go with the crop top trend but to not be horribly exposed, it is also an easy top to wear from day to night. I really like the idea of something so “free” like fringe paired with a blazer for structure. The pop of pink in the shoes adds a bit of femininity to the outfit, the crystalized python and six inch heels do not hurt either! Lastly, the necklace from Lionette is a must have in my opinion. It can totally transform an outfit, anything from jeans and a white t-shirt to a ball gown! So moral of this, do not be afraid to take a more “corporate” piece and pair it with something unexpected like fringe or a crop top. Just like in life, the free spirit compliments the person in a suit on the reg, and vice versa!

P.S. I am all moved into my apartment in Chicago for my new job! I am so excited, but now I need to find a photographer in the area. If you live around Chicago and are interested, please message me using the contact form! Thank you. xx

Efficiently Effortless

There is something so effortless about black and white, and it is even better when the black and white outfit is comfortable! I was wearing this all day with my white Birkenstocks, then I switched into heels for dinner. I bought these pants for a job interview and they have become my new favorite! I love the tulip hem and the sophistication of them makes it easy to pair with different tops and shoes for endless day and night options. A great pair of black pants are a staple for everyone, if you are in need I definitely suggest these! Another great piece for a seamless day to night look is to add a statement item. It will dress up any outfit instantly and really is so easy and effortless!

Pretty In Pastel Pink

So girly today! Head to (almost) toe in a pastel is definitely a major trend for spring. It was shown down many spring and even fall runways, but most notably Celine and Rochas. I do not have pastel heels… yet, but I am on the hunt. I have said it before, invest in a pastel blazer, it will work all through spring, summer, fall, and probably next spring too! Just be sure it is a good cut. I personally love boyfriend blazers so when I saw this one at Forever I had to get it, if pink is not your color they had it in pastel blue too! Another trend that has been happening for a while is pearls, but not boring pearls. Designers are amping up the pearl game with exciting, fresh designs that toughen up this gem that was once reserved for the preppiest lady and meeting the parents. I cannot take myself seriously in this much pink, especially a dress, while wearing pearls, even though the design is cool, so I kept my favorite black sunglasses on for most of the day and my hair was super messy to make sure I was not mistaken for a preppy little lady, HA! However, head to toe pastels is definitely something I will do again, and I suggest you do it too!

Sex, Drugs and…

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageJacket: Forever 21||T-Shirt: Naive Nation||Jeans: Zara||Boots: Aldo||Brooches: Vintage {Pics by: Kaitlyn Elliott}

Sex, drugs & red soles. If only life was that simple.. Anyway, the best part about having this blog, since I don’t have unlimited funds, is I have to find things in my closet and reinvent them. Like these boots from Aldo I have had for ages and they are my go to casual boots, they normally come up to about mid-calf. I was so over every pair of shoes I have and as I sat there thinking I was like hmm.. I could totally fold those boots over! Voila, new pair of shoes. The point is sometimes you have the newest “must have” trend or a fresh new pair of shoes right in your closet, it just takes a little tweak for you to see it. My last post I wore sneakers, and now a bomber jacket. Sportswear was a huge trend on the Spring 2014 runways. It was huge for you men out there too, and it doesn’t mean a baseball jersey and basketball shorts. Bomber jackets are another must for spring. I say borrow your mans & roll up the sleeves, I’m so economical, or don’t be afraid to at least look in the mens section for yourself to find the perfect jacket! I got this one from Forever, which is great but since it is so mass produced I wanted to make it my own by adding some of my Grandma’s brooches, it classed up this sporty jacket and the sort of vulgar saying on the tee! Oops.

How amazing is this traditional smoking jacket? My Grandpa got it while he was in Hokkaido, Japan during World War II. When he gave it to my mom I fell in love with it instantly and knew I would be borrowing it. With the oversized coat trend in full force, I decided now was the time to wear it. The colors and the details are beyond, you just don’t find quality like this anymore so I am very lucky he passed it down. Since it was my Grandpa’s it was extra oversized so I had to roll up the sleeves. A traditional smoking jacket is worn with the belt tied around your waist, but I didn’t like that so I tied it in my best possible bow in the back. You can do that with any coat or jacket with a belt, it will help define your waist and it is super cute! I obviously wanted the jacket to shine so I wore my favorite basics, my Zara tank top and Seven jeans. Like I said in this blog post, I am totally into just rolling my jeans up once. It is undone but done in a cool “I don’t care” kind of way. This season some of your favorite pieces may be in a relatives attic! Go hunting for them, and wear them because they will always be a special, one of a kind piece with a great history.

Break The Rules

Dress: Moda International Cardigan & Belt: Forever 21 Beanie: Maison Scotch Watch: Michael Kors Shoes: Christian Louboutin

Blog photos at night? Sure. White after Labor Day? Absolutely. Rules are meant to be broken… so break them! Wearing white throughout fall and winter is actually very modern and chic. And camouflage isn’t reserved for hunters anymore, it was shown down the runway for fall by classics like Michael Kors and Alexander Wang. I paired my little white dress, which in my opinion is the new little black dress, with an oversized cardigan to stay warm. I added a black belt to define my waist and make my look more polished. It was raining and I just got my hair done so I had to throw on a beanie! And heels… always.
