Peter Pilotto Picked A Peck Of Prints

Finally, it is nice enough out to wear this skirt, it has been sitting in my closet for months! I usually stay away from prints and things that are too busy for fear of looking like a crazy person, but when I tried this on together in the dressing room I loved it! I think that is the glory of this particular collection for Target, everything mixed and matched well even though everything had a print of some kind on it. Mixing prints is definitely a tricky thing, but thats the fun of it! Here are some tips for mixing prints:

1. Stripes are now a neutral, they can go with florals, polka dots, or even other stripes!

2. Be sure the prints you are mixing have the same color shade in each piece, my repeating color is obviously black and white, however I would rarely suggest black and white being your main colors when mixing, because you could end up looking like a zebra. The colors in the top are actually what tied this particular look together!

3. The sizing of the mixed prints. Big repeated patterns should be paired with small repeating patterns. I love the big geometric pattern on the back of the skirt, with the smaller details on the wrap of it. When mixed with the top where the stripes are medium sized compared to the rest of the outfit, it just seems to work.

4. Do not be afraid to break all the rules, if you think it looks good then it probably does! Some fun combinations to try are stripes with florals, animal print with chevron, art deco with water color, the possibilities are endless.

Okay, since I am wearing a designer collaboration it is only appropriate to talk about the next major collab. This will be the best one yet in my opinion, Alexander Wang x H&M. Ohmigod, seriously start saving your pennies. They let the word out at the H&M party at Coachella last weekend, they also released a video on Instagram that has a scoreboard to announce the November 6th release date, so the collection will probably have a sporty feel. Which totally makes sense since he is the first American designer to collaborate with H&M. I am definitely looking forward to getting my hands on an awesome bag, you know he will not put his name on a t-shirt that is not impeccably designed with a magnificent fabric, and just some all around cool lifestyle pieces. So excited!

From Tickled Pink To Feeling Blue & Back

ImageImageImageImageImageImageIMG_4536ImageImageImage Dress: Zara||Shoes: Zara||Earrings: Forever 21 {Shot by: Samira Anbar}

You know those days where everything is perfect? Got off from my job early, it was beautiful out, and Michigan Ave. was right around the corner, so I decided to do some light shopping. Which is like one dress from wherever and cheap accessories from Topshop. That was the plan. As I was handing over my sensible black dress and a much needed basic button down to the dressing room attendant at Zara, I received a text message that turned my blissful mood sour. Instead of screaming the inevitable “UGH” (which I would never do… in public) I put my sensible things on hold and came back with half the store. Most of the stuff was cut for my sister, a 5’10 leggy beaut, so I only ended up with this outfit, which my bank account is thankful for, but it made me laugh how when I was kind of upset I chose the happiest of colors to cheer me up. I do not regret buying this outfit in lieu of the basics, it put me in a semi-better mood. The shoes are amazing and the dress is a great classic cut and color! I love the button details, especially the ones on the back of the arm. Beyond that, and I’ve said it before, this spring and into fall is all about pastels, get on it! Even if it is just one item for spring, be sure the cut is flattering on your body and not too frilly, unless that is your thing, I guarantee you will not regret it! I am planning on wearing this to Easter mass with the fam, but it is also a great look when attending a wedding. The point of all of this is, every once in a while step out of your comfort zone and do not buy the thing that makes sense, bad mood or not, the “neccessity” will ALWAYS be there in some way, shape, or form. Pastel pink heels are not something I will wear everyday or come across all the time, but when I am wearing them, I know they are making a statement.

What to wear: Coachella

Coachella
I have been insanely busy lately so there was no time for an outfit post, however, this is even better. Coachella is this weekend and next, due to scheduling conflicts I will not be there, but this is an outfit I would totally wear! I know everyone does the hippie thing, so this is my personal take on that. It is sort of hippie meets dominatrix princess, HA! How amazing is the headband by River Island though? I feel like Coachella would be the perfect place to wear that, along with those sunglasses! Then when you get a weird suntan on your forehead, take it off and put your hair up with those awesome chevron hair ties! Throw on a red lip so you are always glam, that Mac one has massive staying power so it will last all day without going all over your face, and no matter what you have on you will make a statement! If you are going this weekend or next, have so much fun, drink lots of water, and do not forget sunscreen!

Three Shades of Grey

This outfit does not come with its very own Christian Grey, even though I really wish it did. I will find you one day sir. So, I am in Chicago working at their market week and I am having so much fun, learning so much, and am exhausted, so this will be short. This outfit was inspired by Kim Kardashian. In my opinion her style has been outstanding lately, you must admit Kanye is an awesome stylist. Well, she has worn head to toe grey a couple times over the past few months and a lot of high-waisted things with cropped tees. I love one color head to toe, and grey is a fun neutral that will flatter anyone but is more interesting than black. Give it a try with any color, keep it casual, and I am sure it will look wonderful!

Socks, Sandals, and Normcore Thoughts

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageTop: Forever 21||Pants: Express||Shoes: Birkenstock||Clutch: Target||Sunglasses: Forever 21 similar here||Jewlery: Vintage||Socks: similar here {Shot by: Miriam Taylor}

Unless you are like me and research fashion daily, you are probably thinking what is on her feet? Is this not a major fashion faux-pas? Well, it is but it isn’t. To put it simply, the Olsen’s wore socks and Birkenstocks the other day, and they do no wrong in my eyes, so no this is not a faux-pas. To many others, the Birkenstock, or the “ugly sandal,” is a no go in itself, let alone pairing them with socks. This style of shoe was shown down the runways at Celine, Prada, and Givenchy, so get on that. The socks and sandals were shown down some runways as well, but was strongly brought into light by street style mavens. I personally am embracing it, I liked my outfit, I was comfortable and got to wear my new shoes!

Style forecasters have called the theory of normcore, blending in by dressing in what is perceived as “normal”, the biggest thing of the decade. Think an average family of tourists in NYC, Seinfeld, or someone like my beloved father whose style rivals Steve Jobs iconic look, that is normcore. I am not sure if I should be honored or ashamed that this style is strongly inspired by the people of the Midwest. Are we finally having our fashion moment?! Honestly I am not quite sure how excited I am about this. I am a little bitch and roll my eyes at people who are not at least trying to look presentable, it is not that hard, and if I embrace this trend will people who aren’t psychos about fashion do that to me? It already happened when I was getting frozen yogurt, I knew what she was thinking, I just put my toppings on and thought, “you’ll understand one day.” Then I realized no you won’t because most people dress like this, and that is what makes normcore so interesting. I honestly do not see people who simply enjoy fashion diving head first into this trend, because why wouldn’t one want to stand out? At the same time, even when the Olsen’s rocked it, they still looked like something special (the crocodile bag helped), and that is what I personally see happening with normcore. People will visit the ugly or the “normal,” but will still maintain a sense of themselves, which is what clothing and trends are about really. What are your thoughts?

I am rocking a lot of trends today; a midi, strappy shoe, pastel leather, crop top, and a sporty situation. I am a walking spring trend billboard. I try to stick to one trend at a time but whatever, rules are meant to be broken and I like my outfit. It is very clear that crop tops are major on the fashion scene. I know myself, and I probably will not be buying a lot of crop tops, but I still want to be involved in the trend, so I just tied up a t-shirt. I tied it in the back because I knew I would keep my jacket on, but tying it up in the front works too. It is super easy, really casual, and still fun. If you do not care too much about the tee just cut it, I might do that to a few of mine, but not this one, it is way too comfy. That is the sporty situation of my outfit, now onto the moto jacket. Ohmigod, it is kind of amazing. I told you guys this spring I was going to amp up my pastels, this was my first… okay second, well third, pastel purchase (my first was a the blazer from this post and then pastel skaters). This jacket is a great transition piece and also as I was getting my coffee the other day the lady told me that this summer is going to be unnaturally colder than usual. She seemed like she knew what she was talking about, so good thing I have this jacket!

P.S. Happy birthday to my little sister Madison. Love you too much. xx

Lady In Lace

Closet full of clothes and nothing to wear… that is how I feel every day. However, when you feel like this one has two options, black pants, black top, black sunglasses and go, or try and reinvent something you already have, I did the latter. I bought this dress for my 22nd birthday because I wanted to be sophisticated, it is nice, but it needs some amping up in order for it to be exciting. The plus side to this winter being too long is I have improved my layering skills, so I put them to use. Pretty simple, just a button down under the dress, but it made it fun! I rolled the sleeves all the way up so it was still a short sleeved look. I definitely need to define my waist in this dress because it is a funny length on me, so I put on a white belt to keep it fresh. Another reinvention in this outfit are my bracelets, they are actually my Grandpa’s gold chains that he was going to sell and I was like, “umm Grandpa, I will totally wear those” so he gave them to me! They look great as necklaces but worked better as bracelets for this outfit. Sometimes you have a fresh new outfit in your closet, which I know I have said before, you just need to think outside the box with what you have! If you feel as if you have nothing, making a necklace into a bracelet or simply buying a new belt can reinvent an old look.

Just so you know, the title of this post is totally in reference to Clueless, not Tupac. You know, Elton & Ty’s song that they first danced to?! If not, watch the movie. Anyway, I am so into sneakers recently, I own more of them now than heels (kidding), but I am heading that way. I had some errands to run so this was an easy outfit for the day. One of my errands was shopping, shocker, and I found this “I heart LA” necklace and I felt as if it would be a major mistake if I did not buy it. I am not so “into” LA anymore, but there is so much of me that truly does love and miss it. So I bought it. I put it on instantly because it compliments my favorite tank top of the moment. I think it is my favorite because I have been listening to way too much rap lately. I wore a ring with a pearl on it so I was not too thug with my two chains wrapped around my wrist. I definitely just laughed at my joke. Happy Monday, it is going to be one of those days, at least for me!

P.S. Today is my Mother’s birthday… she probably won’t even read this, but Happy Birthday Mama. xx

Pretty In Pastel Pink

So girly today! Head to (almost) toe in a pastel is definitely a major trend for spring. It was shown down many spring and even fall runways, but most notably Celine and Rochas. I do not have pastel heels… yet, but I am on the hunt. I have said it before, invest in a pastel blazer, it will work all through spring, summer, fall, and probably next spring too! Just be sure it is a good cut. I personally love boyfriend blazers so when I saw this one at Forever I had to get it, if pink is not your color they had it in pastel blue too! Another trend that has been happening for a while is pearls, but not boring pearls. Designers are amping up the pearl game with exciting, fresh designs that toughen up this gem that was once reserved for the preppiest lady and meeting the parents. I cannot take myself seriously in this much pink, especially a dress, while wearing pearls, even though the design is cool, so I kept my favorite black sunglasses on for most of the day and my hair was super messy to make sure I was not mistaken for a preppy little lady, HA! However, head to toe pastels is definitely something I will do again, and I suggest you do it too!

Kiss Me, I’m Irish

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageDress: Kohls||Blazer: H&M similar on major sale here||Belt: Nasty Gal similar here||Shoes: ASOS similar here||Ring: Vintage {Pics by: Samira Anbar}

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I really am a bit Irish. You better be wearing green today, this is like the only green thing I own, despite it being my second favorite color. I fell in love with the neon green against the navy blue, it is an unexpected and fresh twist. Then to mix it up even more I wore black heels, to tie in the black lace on the blazer, a cheetah belt, because cheetah is a neutral, and pink lips for fun! I love bright, bold colors, but as I get older it gets scary to wear them for fear of looking obnoxious, but whatever Anna Dello Russo does it so I can too! If you don’t know who she is google her, she is major. I think this color combination is pretty fab, what is the point of fashion if you aren’t having a bit of fun with it? Beyond the clothes, notice anything different? I cut my hair.. into a “lob,” formally called a long bob. I haven’t cut my hair into a “trendy” cut like ever, so I decided it was time for a change and went for it. I hope everyone had a great St. Patty’s weekend and drank too much green beer. I’m off to Chicago for the day.. maybe I’ll have my first green beer ever?!

A Koople Of Things

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageSweater: Zara similar here less expensive here||Shorts: The Kooples similar here||Shoes: Christian Louboutin||Ring: Vintage {Pics by: Samira Anbar}

Recently I have been thinking about what would be a good outfit for a date. As someone who is so in love with fashion and is not really afraid to try any trend at least once, I find there is a fine line between being fashionable and being what fashion ladies like to call a “man repeller.” My exceptionally good looks and my fab personality is intimidating enough, I do not need my clothes to be…joking. That being said, I kept it simple. Sweaters for night time were just recently shown down the runway at Balenciaga, so I decided to try it out, and I kind of love it. I was super comfortable and I finally found something that looks good with these shorts! I love the idea of shorts for a date because it is more interesting than the predictable dress or skirt but is not a “man repelling” piece. At least I don’t think it is, but who knows what goes on in a mans head! I pulled all my curled hair to the side, which was a major trend at the Academy Awards, and braided the other side to add some youth. If this outfit still repels men, then that man doesn’t deserve a fashion forward lady anyway!
